Chiropractics.jpg   A chiropractic adjustment is defined as a short lever, high velocity controlled thrust that is directed at specific articulations in order to correct vertebral subluxations.  The bones of the spine and joints are maintained in a specific alignment, and the nerves which surround each joint and vertebral articulation are in constant communication with the central nervous system, brain and all organs.  When even a subtle change in this alignment occurs, it is called a subluxation, and these affect the nervous system, local muscles, joints, and even distant organs, glands and body functions.

Because all organs receive nervous system input from the nerves which exit between vertebra, correcting subluxations in these areas can change the nervous system input and affect blood flow, as well as hormone and neurotransmitter levels directly affecting the organs and glands, skin and joints.

Chiropractic adjustments can provide benefits for a variety of conditions, whether used alone or in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities.  Some of the most frequent uses of chiropractics include:

  • Neck, back, leg and tail pain and/or injury

  • Maintenance of joint and spinal health

  • Maintenance of Intervertibral Disc Disease

  The Chiropractic Exam

Before Dr. Dittrich provides a chiropractic adjustment for an animal, he will review their past medical history, radiographs and laboratory tests.  He will also conduct a neurological evaluation, stance and gait analysis, and motion and static palpation to ensure that it is safe to perform adjustments.  Most animals accept both the exam and adjustment without signs of pain, but when a painful area is found, the gentlest techniques will be used in order to reduce pain before delivering an adjustment. While some pets show immediate improvement, it can often require several sessions to resolve acute or chronic pain.  It is also common for an animal to experience 24-48 hour periods of fatigue after being adjusted.
